Day 129 - Sorry About It

Currently Burning: Raspberry Zinger

Sorry guys, I'm just WAY too tired to post about food today. Feel like a failure on Tuesdays lol. I keep saying "next week" so maybe I just need to change up Tuesdays.

Now onto the daily review!

Raspberry Zinger (5): This is one of my new favorites. I ordered a candle in this from the May 1st sale and can't wait for it to get here. This is a mixture of Raspberry and Lime. It's SO freaking good and the throw is pretty strong too!

Day 128 - Jumanji

Currently Burning: Mermaid Kiss

I LOVED this movie when I was a kid lol. I need to go out and buy the DVD because it is so good! If you've never seen if (do you live under a rock?) it's about this family that decides to play a board game. Basically whatever you land on in the game becomes a reality. It's also in rhyme. By the end of the movie just about the entire jungle has come out lol

Now onto the daily review!

Mermaid Kiss (4): This is a really nice clean scent! It almost smells like a cologne to me. I need to get a candle stat!! The throw is also really strong.

Day 127 - Common Grounds

Currently Burning: DKNY Delicious

So I went to one of my favorite spots in Fayetteville tonight - Common Grounds. Technically it's a coffee shop, but it also has a bar and a full restaurant inside. I don't go there for coffee (since I don't drink it), but I LOVE the nachos and non-coffee drinks that they have. Tonight I had a Funky Monkey, which is essentially a chocolate shake with banana syrup (or liqueur). It mostly tasted like banana but was so good! I also had some mozzarella and tomatoes with olive oil/balsamic drizzled on top, and of course the nachos.

If you're ever in Fayetteville, this is a must see. The brunch menu on the weekends is super amazing too!

Now onto the daily review!

DKNY Delicious (3): This is a dupe for the DKNY Be Delicious perfume. It's supposed to smell like green apples. It's really pretty, but is kind of weird in candle form to me. I'm not a huge fan of the perfume to candle fragrances anyway. I probably won't be getting a candle in this. The throw is really strong though!

Day 126 - Black Label Jars

Currently Burning: Banana Nut Bread

Finally get to resume my Jar series! The Black Label jar is 14 oz of wax. It's a pretty heavy jar because the glass on it is rather thick. It isn't really tapered at all and makes a really nice container for the top shelf fragrances. The lid isn't a screw top like her normal candles, but rather has some plastic around the edges to help it make a seal you pop on.

To give you a sense of scale, the mouth on the jar is about 1/4 of an inch wider than the 16 oz jars and they're about the same height. The Black Label jars have about an inch or so of glass at the bottom of the jar whereas the 16oz jars do not (hence the extra 2 oz of wax).

While it isn't my favorite jar to burn, I have found a pretty good way to get an even wax pool. I tend to leave my wicks pretty long on these jars, because I have found that if I trim them super short, it can be almost impossible to get a full even melt pool. It seems like the wax in these candles is a little harder than Victoria's normal wax as well (may not be the case...just seems that way). They will correct themselves even if you do get some tunneling though. Longer wicks can tend to smoke with CBV candles so it's a trade off for a faster full melt pool vs smoking wicks. I'll take the smoking wicks personally.

With longer wicks it took probably about 2-3 hours to get a full melt pool. Shorter wicks and it was 8+ hours (hence why I quit trimming them super short). Essentially now I just trim off the mushroom at the top and it's good to go. If the wick is over 1/2 an inch then I'll trim it down, but I tend to leave them longer. I do not trim them when I first get them anymore either because the first burn will set the tone for how the candle will go (unless you want to spend some time correcting it).

Like I said, not my favorite jar, but it does fit the Black Label line nicely. Plus the label and lid are really nice touches.

Happy Cinco de Mayo ;)

Now onto the daily review!

Banana Nut Bread (4): This one isn't dead on for banana nut bread to me. It is a really sweet banana bakery, but there's just something about it that doesn't scream banana nut bread. Part of it might be that the banana in it is that banana runts smell. Also I don't really get much of a nut smell...smells like Banana runts bread lol. The throw is decent though. I don't think I'll repurchase this candle, but it is nice every once in awhile.

Day 125 - Fallout 3

Currently Burning: Hyacinth

This is another older game (released 2008) but it's one that I've been playing a lot recently. Once again Bethesda delivered with Fallout 3. Awesome RPG. Also, different from typical RPGs in that it isn't a fantasy-based game. It takes place in post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. It basically assumed that American culture stagnated in the 1950s so even though the game takes place in 2277, the way people dress and act is very much like the 1950s. The game is on the gory side, but other than that the game play is really good. The replay value is also really good since there are so many different missions and side quests.

Now onto the daily review!

Hyacinth (4): This one is really good! It's a really light, sweet floral. I wish the throw was stronger (totally surprised since it's a floral!) but other than that it's nice. Pretty true to the flower. Not sure if I would go for the candle, but maybe a 4 oz!

Day 124 - RuPaul's Drag Race Finale

Currently Burning: Summer Nites

OK, I know that I've already posted about this show before, but I just had to talk about the finale/reunion! RuPaul really classed it up for the reunion! Usually the reunion shows are filmed in this blank sound stage and are just kind of ghetto. This time it was in a theater and looked like she paid more than $5 for it!

I really enjoyed the finale and think that the right person won overall. Also, it was good to get the story for why Willam was dismissed from the show!

Now onto the daily review!

Summer Nites (3): This one is just ok to me. For some reason, it's listed under earthy, but to me it smells like those orange circus peanut candies lol. Probably won't be getting a candle in this one. The throw is pretty light.

Day 123 - Weekly Scent Recap #7

Currently Burning: Blushing Peaches

Hey everyone! Here's my scent recap for the week of April 25 - May 1 :)

Now onto the daily review!

Blushing Peaches (4): I liked this one a lot more warmed up than I did on cold throw! It's a really good mix of the peach and strawberry with a vanilla base. Glad I went for a candle in the this one! The throw is medium on this one.
