Day 135 - Winnie the Pooh

Currently Burning: Life's a Beach

I watched this in theaters last summer. I loved the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh movie from forever ago and was super excited to see a new Pooh movie. I was kind of let down because this movie was REALLY short. It was still really good though. It has three stories rolled into the movie. The main story line has to do with Eeyore looking for a tail and Christopher Robin being "abducted." Super cute movie and the trailer is really cute too.

Life's a Beach (5): This is a fabulous scent. It smells a lot like orange skittles, but also has some fizzy in it. Definitely candle-worthy!!! The scent throw is medium.

Day 128 - Jumanji

Currently Burning: Mermaid Kiss

I LOVED this movie when I was a kid lol. I need to go out and buy the DVD because it is so good! If you've never seen if (do you live under a rock?) it's about this family that decides to play a board game. Basically whatever you land on in the game becomes a reality. It's also in rhyme. By the end of the movie just about the entire jungle has come out lol

Mermaid Kiss (4): This is a really nice clean scent! It almost smells like a cologne to me. I need to get a candle stat!! The throw is also really strong.

Day 121 - Tangled

Currently Burning: Mulberry Cider

This movie is the story of Rapunzel. It's one of the newer Disney movies. I don't actually own the DVD, but I've watched it on Netflix 100 times lol. I really love this one. The music in it is wonderful :)

Mulberry Cider (2): I'm going to start off by saying that I am not the biggest fan of mulberry scents. I do really like Victoria's cider scent though. There are other cider scents that I like better than this because the mulberry is really killing it for me. Probably won't order it again. The throw is medium.

Day 114 - Mary Poppins

Currently Burning: Pink Sugar

While this post is not about the move, the stage musical is based on the movie! I saw Mary Poppins on stage this past Thursday. The production quality and set design was really amazing. If this is coming to a city near you, you NEED to go see it! 

Some of the songs are from the movie, but there are several new ones as well. In addition, some of the scenes take place in a different venue than the movie (like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious). I also wish there were some scenes that were in the movie, but didn't make it to the stage (like I Love to Laugh). Overall it was one of the best shows I've seen!

Pink Sugar (4): I love this one a lot more than I thought I would originally. This is a dupe for the Aquolina Pink Sugar perfume. It smells a lot like straight up simple syrup. It's very sweet and I think would be a great mixer to sweeten other scents up! I'm not sure if I would get a candle in this one, but I can see getting some heart tarts to use for cocktailing. The throw is medium/strong on this one!

Day 107 - The Sword in the Stone

Currently Burning: Gone Grape

The Sword in the Stone is interesting because it doesn't really have a villain until later in the movie. The story is about coming of age and discovering one's true self. Merlin transforms Arthur into different animals to treat him lessons about how size doesn't matter. The part with the squirrels is hilarious lol!

Gone Grape (2): This smells like Dimetapp on cold throw. It's a very medicinal grape. It smells better on warm throw and smells more like grape candy. It's still not a favorite so I won't be repurchasing. The throw is light.

Day 100 - The Hunger Games (Movie)

Currently Burning: Blue Sugar Cotton Candy

A little bit of a departure from Disney lol. I finally got around to watching this last week. I've read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire so I had a background going into the movie. To me, this movie was pretty good. It could have been way better on so many levels, but overall I thought they did a decent job of turning the book into the movie. I did like the commentary portion rather than the internal monologue of the book. 

I did not like how much President Snow and Seneca Crane were featured. I also wouldn't have minded it being rated R because the violence is really what makes the book so shocking. The movie was rather long at about 2.5 hours but they did a good job of including most things. They left out a few key characters, but nothing that can't be rewritten. I'm definitely going to have to see Catching Fire (even if I didn't like the first 1/2 of the book).

Blue Sugar Cotton Candy (4): This is a mixture of Aquolina Blue Sugar and Cotton Candy. I actually really like this one. I haven't tried either on their own, but this is a super sugary delight! I'll probably end up getting this in a candle at some point. The throw is pretty strong.

Day 093 - The Rescuers

Currently Burning: Apricot Crumb Cake

This is a really funny movie! It doesn't get as much love as some of the other Disney classics, but I really love the characters. Essentially it's about mice that are rescue agents for children that are kidnapped. Penny (an orphan) was taken by Madam Medusa to find a large diamond in a flooded cave. The mice take off after her to find and return Penny so she can be adopted.

Apricot Crumb Cake (4): This one is really nice. The sweetness of the apricot is mellowed out perfectly by the bakery note. The throw is also pretty decent. I can see myself getting a candle in this one!

Day 086 - Alice in Wonderland

Currently Burning: Watermelon

I really wanted to watch this after watching Once Upon a Time yesterday. This movie is a little crazy (but the book is SO much crazier). I swear Lewis Carroll was dropping acid when writing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Technically the Disney version is a mashup of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

I noticed while watching that the girl that does the voice for Alice is also the voice of Wendy in Peter Pan. This is a really great Disney movie.

Watermelon (2): My 9 oz of watermelon has some carbon pieces in the bottom of it because I had to put the candle on my warmer to reset the wick. I think it's funny because it makes it look like the watermelon candle has seeds. I think I like this one better on a warmer than actually lit. It doesn't really smell like watermelon to me at all. It's surprisingly not really sweet to me. I was hoping for like a watermelon candy smell, but that's not what this is. I've had this candle for almost a year. The throw on it is also pretty light. I will not be reordering this one.

Day 079 - Pinocchio

Currently Burning: Cucumber Lime Twist

This was the 2nd animated Disney movie made. I remember when I was a kid, this movie was pretty scary because of the ending. Last night's episode of Once Upon a Time prompted me watching this one. Jiminy Cricket played a pivotal role this time around. I also forgot this is where the Blue Fairy came into play.

A much more serious tone than last week's movie. This one is essentially about someone who has to figure out the difference between right and wrong. Along the way, Pinocchio makes several bad decisions that result in some terrible consequences.

It's almost as if the story has multiple short stories in it. There's the story about not pursuing material wealth (the puppeteer), not giving into vices like gambling, drinking, and smoking (Pleasure Island), and how your negative actions affect the ones you love (Monstro). Good movie, but it's probably one of the gloomiest Disney movies.

Cucumber Lime Twist (5): This one is really nice. The cucumber is the dominant note with just a hint of lime. It also has a slight green note that helps to mellow it out.  It's not as sweet as many of the fruits can be and I really like it. It's like a clean, fruity scent. I can definitely see myself getting this in a candle. The throw is medium.

Day 072 - Robin Hood

Currently Burning: Fizzy Pop

Watching these Disney movies again after so many years is really funny to me. There are so many innuendos, double entendres, and jokes that I didn't get when I was a kid. For this one I thought I would list some of my favorite quotes. Granted most of these aren't really all that funny out of context, but I was cracking up watching it.

The Disney movies made in the 1960s/1970s used the same voice actors for a lot of characters, so it's kind of weird to hear some of these duplicated (The Jungle Book has many of the same).  I'm pretty sure the dance scene with Lady Kluck and Little John is the exact same as the one between Baloo and King Louie. Also there appears to be some similarities from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as well as the Aristocats. In fact, I found a video to prove my point:

How lazy is that? Oh well, still gotta love Disney even if they just reanimate their own movies lol.

Fizzy Pop (4): On cold throw, this smells like Alka Seltzer to me. I don't really get any lemon/lime, just the carbonation. However, once warmed, the carbonation smell gives way to more of a lime smell. I really like this one warm. The throw is medium. I can see my self getting a smaller candle in this one.

I also decided to throw in 1/2 SS of Fruit Loops to the 1/2 SS of Fizzy Pop to make the Bubbles Make Me Loopy CAS. The combination is definitely better than the sum of its parts. Both Fruit Loops and Fizzy Pop are good for me, but the Bubbles Makes Me Loopy is way better than either one. I may have to get this one as my first CAS order!

Day 065 - Hercules

Currently Burning: Summer Sorbet

Even though Hercules is completely inaccurate to the Greek myth it's still a good movie. The music is really good. It came out in 1997. It has some pretty famous voice actors like James Woods and Danny DeVito. Like all Disney movies, the story is barely an adaptation from the original tale. The animation is pretty different from other movies. There's a lot of angular faces.

Summer Sorbet (2): There's something about this one that I do not like. It's a mixture of melons, berries, and citrus. I think the heaviest note is honeydew melon and I am just not feeling it. It's pretty strong. I probably will not be ordering this one again.

Day 058 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Currently Burning: Vanilla Bean Noel

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full length animated feature released by Walt Disney. I was released in 1937 so it's been around awhile :) The Disney films from back in the day were kind of scary! The Evil Queen is an awesome villain in this one. I think that it's kind of funny that Snow White is probably the healthiest looking of all Disney princesses. She has a very boyish frame with a larger waist and smaller bust.

While not my favorite Disney movie of all time, this one is definitely amazing for its time. It's clear that a lot of hard work went into the production. The background and foregrounds are all painted on glass panels by hand! Check it out if you haven't!

Vanilla Bean Noel (4): This is a dupe for a Bath and Body Works scent. Not having smelled that product before, I won't be able to give a comparison. When I first burned this one a couple months back, I thought it was pretty good, but nothing really special. It's a combo of vanilla and peppermint and it's much heavier on the vanilla (compare to sweet snow which is the opposite). Now that it's been sitting for a couple months it's blowing my socks off. I think this one is a great mixer (I know a few CAS are already out there - I'm going to throw 1/4 scent shot of spearmint in here in a few to make Eskimo Kisses). The throw on this one is pretty strong. I'm not sure if I would order this one by itself, but I would definitely get one of the combo scents.

*Update* The CAS Eskimo Kisses is AMAZING! I may have to break my candle freeze to get this in a Love, Victoria with Gem Blue Glitter!

Day 051 - The Princess and the Frog

Currently Burning: Bergamot & Herbal Mint

The Princess and the Frog was released in November of 2009. It's a retelling of the classic tale, the Frog Prince. I really like the style that this movie is filmed in because it takes place in New Orleans. The music is jazz inspired so it's really fun. It's also the first film to feature an African American as the lead princess.

Overall the film is really good and definitely the best Disney movie since 2000.

Bergamot & Herbal Mint (4):This is an interesting scent. It's soft with the floral note, but at the same time it has a kick with the mint. I have this going in my bathroom right now. I'm not sure if I would reorder this in another candle once it's gone, but I do like it. The throw is pretty strong with the mint.

Day 044 - Fantasia 2000

Currently Burning: Sweet Comfort

Fantasia 2000 is the follow-up movie to the original Fantasia. I really love the way the music and the images play off each other.

The first segment is Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C-minor and is an abstract animation with colors and shapes representing butterflies and bats. It's a fight between light and dark with light ultimately winning.

The 2nd piece is the Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi. This piece is gorgeous. This is an animation of whales that are able to fly due to a supernova explosion. There's a whale calf that is separated from the rest inside of an iceberg at one point, but is reunited in the end. 

The 3rd piece is Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. I really love this piece. It's so fun and upbeat! The animation depicts the life of several people set in a 1930s depression-era New York City.

The 4th piece is Piano Concerto No. 2 in F-major by Dmitri Shostakovich. The animation is based on the story of the Steadfast Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Andersen. I'm not a huge fan of this one.

The 5th piece is The Carnival of the Animals, Finale by Camille Saint-Saens. The animation features a flamingo with a yo-yo. The rest of the flock tries to quell him the entire time and it's quite humorous.

The 6th piece is The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas. This was in the original Fantasia. Micky Mouse plays the apprentice of the sorcerer Yen Sid. He attempts to use some of his master's music before knowing how to control it.

The 7th piece is Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar. Most people have heard part of the first movement of this piece at graduations. It's set to the story of Noah's Ark with Donald Duck playing Noah.

The Final piece is the Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky. I really like this piece and it's a good finale to the movie. A forest sprite and her elk companion inadvertently awaken the Firebird inside of a volcano.

Sweet Comfort (3): This smelled like a cake. It smells like frosting, yellow cake mix, and vanilla. I also get another note in it kind of like pear. It's nice, but the throw isn't super strong. I probably won't reorder this one.

Day 037 - The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Currently Burning: Godfather

I should change Movie Monday to Disney Movie Mondays because I've been on a kick the past three weeks! I bought this movie a few months ago and finally got around to watching it. It was one of my favorites growing up, but I haven't seen it in years. I really love the music in this one :)

Godfather (4): This is one of Victoria's Black Label candles. It's a pretty spicy candle with a pumpkin note in it. She lists clove, cardamom, ginger, mace, cinnamon, and nutmeg as the spices in it. It also has a background of vanilla. I really like this one. I think it's a great cold weather scent without being too tied to the holidays. It doesn't smell at all like pumpkin pie, but I do get pumpkin and vanilla. The spices round it out nicely. It doesn't really smell like food to me though. I can't place exactly what it smells like, but it's nice.

Day 030 - Howl's Moving Castle

Currently Burning: Stress Relief

Howl's Moving Castle is a Hayao Myizaki and Studio Ghibli film.Myazaki's films are among my favorites because I feel that I really connect with the characters. They're so well written that I can genuinely feel connected to the storyline.

The story is essentially about Sophie who is transformed into an old woman by the Witch of the Wastes. She meets Howl (a wizard) who can tell that she is under a spell. The story follows the adventures of Howl, Calcifer (a fire spirit), Turnip Head (a scarecrow), and Markl (Howl's apprentice). If you've never seen a Myazaki film definitely check this one out because it is one of his best!

Stress Relief (4): This is a blend of peppermint, lavender, and chai tea. I mostly smell the peppermint and lavender. I'm going to be ordering this in a smaller candle next time I place an order. The throw is really strong on this one because of the mint.

Day 023 - Beauty and the Beast 3D

Currently Burning: Springdipity

Yesterday Roman and I went to watch Beauty and the Beast 3D. He had actually never seen this movie before! It was interesting to see it in 3D, but most of the movie it just looked like 2D images stacked on top of each other. This is one of my favorite Disney movies so I would definitely recommend it. Seeing it in Theaters was a great opportunity since it came out in 1991 the first time.

Springdipity (4) - I was feeling into spring today so I decided to try this one. It's a mixture of different florals and fruits. It's a very light, slightly perfumy scent. I do like it though so I may order it in a smaller candle.

Day 016 - Phantom of the Opera

Currently Burning: Blueberry Candy Cane

Yesterday I watched The Phantom of the Opera.

This movie came out when I was in high school and I loved it. Still do. I've been watching some old YouTube videos (more on this on Wednesday!!) and it just got me in a mood to watch a musical. Basically the movie is an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage musical. I was in band in high school and the soundtrack was our marching show. Can't say enough about this movie. If you haven't seen it, go watch it!

Blueberry Candy Cane (3): This is a combination of peppermint and blueberry. The first time I burned it I really didn't like it very much because it was EXTREMELY pungent. The second time it seems to have mellowed out some so it really isn't that bad. I'm still not sure how I feel about Victoria's blueberry scent. I need to try Blueberry Cheesecake before I decide for sure.
