Day 182 - Black Label Overview

Currently Burning: Enchanted Forest

I thought that for today's CBV Saturday I would do a complete overview of the Black Label line. I have all 13 of them now in candle form and have burned them at least once. I'll do this from those that I like the least to those that I like the most.

GOOD

Tuxedo (2): This is another one of the cologne fragrances. This is similar to Brandy Alexander, but it isn't as strong or spicy. I would say this is more of a dad's cologne whereas Brandy Alexander is more of a grandfather's cologne. Not bad, but not my favorite.
Brandy Alexander (3): This is an older man's cologne type smell. It reminds me of like an Old Spice type. Very woodsy and the throw isn't very strong. One that I probably won't be repurchasing, but it is nice every once in awhile.

Earthquake (3): This one smells like kitchen spices, but it's not bakery. It's more like something cooking on the stove top. I primarily get nutmeg and all spice in this one. Not bad, but definitely not my favorite black label.
Alabama Slamma (3): This one is super strong! The predominant note I get is hickory, which is awesome because it totally takes me back to when my dad would smoke ham with hickory chips. There's also some bakery notes in there but overall I would put this in the earthy category. Not sure if I would reorder it, but I do love Black Label candles :)

GREAT

Bonsai (4): This one is really good warmed up! It smells like a very doughy pudding. Kind of like Bread pudding without the spices or a rice pudding. It's extremely sweet and I was surprised at how strong it threw!! The vanilla blossoms don't make it smell like a straight up rice pudding, but a sweetened up version.

Salty Dog (4): This one smells like Juicy Fruit! There's also a hint of apple and cinnamon in it, but mostly I get the Juicy Fruit gum note. The throw is pretty good on this one, but isn't too strong.
Harvey Wallbanger (4): This would be rated as a 5 if it had a stronger throw. It's really good though. I get some maple and sweetness out of it. I wouldn't necessarily say maple syrup, but maybe like maple frosting. It's really good and I can't see anyone not liking it.
Mojito (4): The throw on this one isn't very strong. It smells like lemon-lime candy and something else that I can't quite figure out. It's nice, but probably not my favorite black label.
Moulin Rouge (3): This one is super complex. It's like a spicy bakery with some woody notes as well. The description is a mile long and includes a TON of different fragrances. I'm having a hard time picking out individual scents, but it definitely has a sweet, cake note, some woody notes, and some kitchen spices. The throw is fairly decent on it, but it could be stronger.

AMAZING

Godfather (4): This is one of Victoria's Black Label candles. It's a pretty spicy candle with a pumpkin note in it. She lists clove, cardamom, ginger, mace, cinnamon, and nutmeg as the spices in it. It also has a background of vanilla. I really like this one. I think it's a great cold weather scent without being too tied to the holidays. It doesn't smell at all like pumpkin pie, but I do get pumpkin and vanilla. The spices round it out nicely. It doesn't really smell like food to me though. I can't place exactly what it smells like, but it's nice.
Singapore Sling (5): This is what lemon pound cake is supposed to smell like. It's got that buttery pound cake that dominates the scent, with the lemon support in the base. Probably jumped to my favorite Black Label! Can't be without this scent.

007 (5): This is an amazing spa scent. It's a little lighter than I normally like my candles to be, but the scent definitely makes up for it. I can't really pick out individual notes because it's so well blended. It is really relaxing and would be the perfect scent to light with a bath. I will most likely be reordering this one!

Manhattan (5): This is the 2nd Black Label candle that I've tried. This one couldn't be more different from Godfather, but I love it as well! It's a powdery, floral, musky type of scent. Based on the 2 Black Labels that I've tried so far, I've found that I really love complex scents. Even if I'm not a huge fan of the type of scent, the fact that one note isn't dominating the scent really draws me in. I'm going to have to try all of the Black Label line to see if this is consistent, but so far I'm impressed! It does seem to have a lighter throw than Godfather, but the scent definitely lingers in the room!

Now onto the daily review!

Enchanted Forest (4): This is a great minty, woodsy scent. It also has some sweetness from strawberry and raspberry. I get more sandalwood than patchouli in it, but mint is definitely the strongest note.

Day 181 - Honeysuckle Jasmine

Currently Burning: Honeysuckle Jasmine

Now onto the daily review!

Honeysuckle Jasmine (3): True to its name, this is Honeysuckle and Jasmine. I think the Jasmine does an amazing job of of sweetening up and toning down the honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is extremely strong and pungent on its own, but with the Jasmine this is a great mix. The throw is also pretty strong. Not sure if I'll go for the candle in it, but it is nice!

Day 180 - Sweet Talk

Currently Burning: Sweet Talk

Now onto the daily review!

Sweet Talk (4): This is a Victoria's Secret dupe. It's a slightly perfumey berry/peach scent. I really like it though! This one will need to go on the candle list. The throw is good too!

Day 179 - Weekly Scent Recap #15

Currently Burning: Blueberry Monkey Bread

Now onto the daily review!

Blueberry Monkey Bread (4): This one smells like Blueberry Cobbler with some cinnamon. SO good! I'm not a fan of blueberry scents generally, but Blueberry Cobbler is good and this one is better! The throw is also medium/strong with this one. I'll probably be getting  a candle in this.

Day 178 - Faerie Ring

Currently Burning: Faerie Ring

Now onto the daily review!

Faerie Ring (4): This is a customer creation of Raspberry Violet and Apples & Oaks. It's a really good combo!!! The throw isn't outrageously strong, but it's still nice. I think I may have to pick up a candle in this one!

Day 177 - Pink Sands

Currently Burning: Pink Sands

Now onto the daily review!

Pink Sands (4): This one is really nice warmed up. It has kind of a perfume note in it, but mostly I get citrus notes with some creamy coconut. Great for summer!! I'll probably end up picking up a candle eventually.

Day 176 - Carrot Cake Orange Delight

Currently Burning: Carrot Cake Orange Delight

Now onto the daily review!

Carrot Cake Orange Delight (1): I didn't really get any throw out of this at all. It did come from a Round Robin box so it's possible that it's incredibly old. If I put my nose up against the wax then it smells like Carrot Cake with Orange. I would rate it a little higher, but there's absolutely no throw.

Day 175 - Georgia Summer

Currently Burning: Georgia Summer

Now onto the daily review!

Georgia Summer (2): This one is a combination of Peach, Magnolia, and Honeysuckle. I get the Magnolia but the peach and honeysuckle are kind of melting into one scent. The peach isn't really sweet at all. Not one of my favorites and probably won't be repurchasing. The throw isn't very strong either.

Day 173 - Berry Me Alive

Currently Burning: Berry Me Alive

Now onto the daily review!

Berry Me Alive (3): Since I got the soap, I decided to go ahead and melt the scent shot that I had in it. Cold, it smells kind of like Red Starbursts. Warm, I get hit with Cherry first, then the orange and raspberry. It's similar to Melissa's soap, but I think I like the soap scent better even though I do really like cherry. The throw isn't terribly strong, so I probably won't go for a candle in this.

Currently Burning: Salty Dog

Day 171 - Raspberry Banana Guava

Currently Burning: Raspberry Banana Guava

Now onto the daily review!

Raspberry Banana Guava (3): This is dead on for the raspberry Mamba chewy candy on cold throw. Such a great candy sweet raspberry. I don't really get much banana but this one is really good. Warmed up it doesn't really smell like the Mamba candy, but I still get the candy-like smell. Not a terrific throw, but it's very sweet.

Day 170 - Carrot Cake

Currently Burning: Carrot Cake

Now onto the daily review!

Carrot Cake (3): When I first got this it smelled mostly like spice cake. Now that it's cured a couple of months it's dead on for a carrot cake minus the cream cheese frosting. I think a CAS with this and cream cheese frosting would be DIVINE!!! The throw is pretty good and the carrot is the dominant note. Not sure if I actually want this in a candle though.

Day 168 - June CBV and CBVBB Orders

Currently Burning: Moulin Rouge

This month I placed two small orders with CBV and CBVBB. We'll start off with the CBV Bath & Body goodies.

Melissa sent me two samples. The first was half of a star in Shamrock Kiss that I already gave to one of my friends. The second is a cbvbb surprise soap with pina colada, cotton candy, and Tiffany-D.

I reordered two of my favorites this time around. I picked up another Shamrock Kiss.

I also picked up another Rock That Vanilla.

Finally the reason I placed the order was for Berry Me Alive. It's not the same as Victoria's scent since Melissa replaced the cherry with cotton candy. This is SO much better than the original Berry Me Alive though because I get all of the notes pretty equally. Found a new favorite :)

Moving on to CBV...

Scent Shots:
Faerie Ring (Free SS): I got this one in my last order. It's a customer creation of Raspberry Violet and Apples & Oaks. Very pretty and can't wait to burn it!
Jelly Donut (Bakery): This one smells predominantly of Strawberry Jam right now, but it also has kind of a salty dough note in the background. Will have to see how it is warm.
Berry Blackberry Cobbler (Bakery): The longer this one cures, the more I like it. The blackberry is really sweetening up the cobbler note, but I can tell that this won't be quite as sweet as blueberry cobbler. Still good though.
Breaking Dawn (House Blends): The name that scent winner this month was added to the Twilight series. This one starts off with orange immediately followed by cedar. Definitely an earthy scent. I don't really get floral notes yet, but I can tell this is one I'll have to warm to really appreciate.
Melsea (House Blends): This is a combination of Me Tarzan, You Jane and Blushing Peaches as chosen by Melissa and Chelsea. They actually blend really well together and I'm excited to try this one warm. It smells like a very peachy perfume right now.
Pagoda Tree (Customer Creations): This one is a combination of Chantilly Lace and Tokyo Spring. It was created by Awbrey and named by Deb. Right now I'm getting mostly the Chantilly Lace, but the Tokyo Spring is beginning to come out and they make a great pair!

Finally the star of the show: Layered Butterscotch Coconut Cream. This one is AMAZING!!!! I LOVE Victoria's Coconut Cream Pie scent and that is what the top layer is mixed with the butterscotch kisses. I can't wait to burn this one. The yellow layer is butterscotch, creme brulee, and buttercream crunch. The white layer on the bottom is cheesecake mixed with whipped cream. The crumbs at the bottom are butter pecan and caramelized pralines. This is a HUGE candle and is sure to be amazing!

Day 167 - Lavender & Basil

Currently Burning: Lavender & Basil

Now onto the daily review!

Lavender & Basil (2): This one smells like dishwashing detergent, or Dial soap. It's pretty strong too. If you're into clean scents then this one is right up your alley. Not for me though.

Day 165 - Weekly Scent Recap #14

Currently Burning: Lemon Vanilla

Now onto the daily review!

Lemon Vanilla (4): This one is really sweet and yummy smelling! It's almost like lemon frosting when it's warmed up. Cold it smells a lot like lemongrass but warm I don't really get that at all. The throw is medium on it. I'm on the fence about whether or not I want a candle in it.

Currently Burning: More Trix Up My Sleeve

More Trix Up My Sleeve (5): This is a customer creation by Deb that was new in April. It's a mix of Trix Are For Kids and Pink & Lime. It is SO good!!! The throw is really strong too. This is a big candle for sure!

Day 163 - Pumpkin Pralines

Currently Burning: Pumpkin Pralines

Now onto the daily review!

Pumpkin Pralines (3): This is like caramelized pralines with a hint of pumpkin. I'm not a huge fan of nutty scents, but this one isn't too bad. The throw is pretty strong. Probably won't be getting this again because there's much better pumpkin scents IMO.

Day 162 - Iris and Fern

Currently Burning: Iris and Fern

Now onto the daily review!

Iris and Fern (5): This is a very pretty, sweet floral. I really like this one because it isn't super heavy nor does it smell like perfume. Just an all around great floral scent. Definitely will be getting a candle in the future. The throw is pretty strong too!
